About the Author:© 2008 Chaos Photography |
With the birth of my third child came a realization – it’s one thing to talk about writing a book, another thing entirely to actually do it. So I decided to go for it and in 2005 I began my pursuit in writing toward publication. After completing a few clunkers that should never see the light of day, my first erotic romance novella was published with Cobblestone Press in 2006. I’ve since been published with a handful of other epublishers including Ellora’s Cave and Samhain Publishing. I have recently sold to Loose Id and Carina Press.
On a personal note I’m a native Californian who lives in the foothills below Yosemite with my husband and three children. Oh and the dog, the cats, the rooster and the chickens…"

Hey everyone! A big thank you to Rita for having me as a guest today at the Not Another Romance blog. I'm so excited to tell you about my novella, Lessons In Indiscretion, first in the Merry Widows series. It's also my first published historical romance. Oh, I've written plenty of historical romances but the majority of them are, mildly put, awful and shall never see the light of day. It was always my dream to write a grand historical with a titled hero and his lovely lady...
But I was scared. Scared I'd screw up, mess up the historical details, not have enough historical details...you get the picture. And that just might happen with Lessons, I really hope not but hey, Carina Press believed enough in my novella so I'm hoping you will too!
Widowed Lady Julia Renwick is still young enough to crave a man’s touch; but she’s too old to think that the Earl of Bedingfield could see her as anything more than a family friend. Garrett Walker is handsome, charming and only 26 years old—the perfect catch for any one of this year’s debutantes.
Garrett has no interest in the maidens vying for his attentions. He wants only Julia. With just two weeks left in the season, he makes a bold move by asking her to dance. When she counters with a shocking request of her own, Garrett eagerly agrees.
Soon, they are stealing away for passionate encounters at every society event they attend. Garrett introduces Julia to excitements she never knew existed, and her newfound confidence quickly attracts other eligible men. It’s not long before Garrett realizes he must find a way to keep the lady all to himself…

They’d spent the last two weeks constantly together, and he still couldn’t get the woman out of his system, Garrett thought grimly as he waited on the sidelines of yet another dance floor as Lady Renwick danced with yet another man. She made him reckless, hungry, in constant need of her. He’d never been utterly enthralled with a woman, taking a secret sense of pride in his cool detachment where the fairer sex was concerned. Allowing one’s emotions to become involved only caused trouble. His father had warned him of that in his youth.
But he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Couldn’t stop wanting to be with her, talking to her, kissing her, buried inside her…

Wow, this looks wonderful! Love the concept, and, oh my, the cover... whew! And Karen, I know exactly how you feel, fretting over the historical details. Sometimes when I speak to other historical authors and/or read their books, I think, "How in heaven's name do they cram all that information in there? They're, like, a walking history encyclopedia!" But for me, I believe the secret is to write what you know. Not to mention, if you write a compelling story with memorable, likable characters about whom we care deeply, then you've done your job.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! Congratulations on your release!!
Tons of historical novels that will never see the light of day? Maybe you could twist and turn them into comedies? Well, at any rate, this one looks really good. It's on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to pick it up Karen. It looks amazing and congrats on the new release! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! Jen, those tons of historical novels I wrote YEARS ago and trust me, they're awful. You don't want to see them at all. LOL
