"A touching and romantic love-story about overcoming grief and allowing true love to take root. ['Wicked Delights Of A Bridal Bed' was] A stellar read that will leave you VERY satisfied, indeed!" quote from my review

"To her surprise, Lady Mallory Byron finds herself walking down the aisle with the last man she ever expected to ask for her hand...
Everyone knows the Byron brothers are “mad, bad, and dangerous.” Now their sister shockingly discovers she’s the newest talk of the Ton when she marries the scandalous Earl of Gresham. Faced with a tragic loss, she’d sought comfort from him as a family friend. But soon consolation turned to passion, scandal––and a wedding! In the bridal bed, she finds pleasure beyond her wildest dreams. But can nights of wicked delight change friendship into true love?
Charming rakehell Adam, Earl of Gresham, has secretly loved Mallory for years. He lost her once to another man, but now he has a second chance to win her love––and plans to do so by any means necessary. Will Mallory’s heart give him what he so dearly desires? Or is the past too much to overcome?"Source

-Q&A-
RJ: Hey Tracy! Thanks for stopping by for a little chat! Congratulations on your latest novel, 'Wicked Delights Of A Bridal Bed', in stores August 31st, 2010 {Today!). What have the past few months been like with anticipating the release, and what have you experienced emotionally as well as professionally with the completion of this new book?
TAW: Hello, Rita, it’s great getting to take a few minutes away from my writing to chat with you and your readers! And thanks for the chance to talk about my latest Byrons of Braebourne novel, WICKED DELIGHTS OF A BRIDAL BED. It’s always hard waiting the last few months before the release of a new book. I get very excited with anticipation at the thought of seeing another of my novels hit the shelves.  And this book is a bit of a professional milestone, since it will be my tenth novel!  It just doesn’t seem that long ago that I was anticipating the release of my first novel, THE HUSBAND TRAP, back in 2006.
RJ: Why don't you tell the readers and I a little bit about your newest book from the author's point of view? This isn't your first book; how does it differ from your previous novels?  What were you trying to achieve with this book and do you feel like it's 'mission accomplished'?
TAW: As I mentioned, this is my tenth novel and the fourth installment in my Byrons of Braebourne series. When I start each new book I always strive to create distinctive characters and tell a unique, page-turning tale. WICKED DELIGHTS OF A BRIDAL BED is no different. As for how it differs from earlier novels, I’d have to say that it deals with some new themes and has a slightly darker tone. My goal for this latest addition to the series was to explore the strength of unconditional love and its healing powers, how friends can sometimes turn into lovers, and the possibilities for happiness that second chances can offer. I’m really pleased with the result and hope readers have as much fun with Mallory and Adam’s story as I had writing it.
RJ: What challenges or difficulties did you face with the writing of this particular novel?
TAW: The challenges I dealt with in writing WICKED DELIGHTS OF A BRIDAL BED are similar to those I usually face with each of my books: creating compelling, believable and sympathetic characters and storylines that will capture the interest of readers. In particular, I pushed my storytelling into new territory by exploring Mallory’s grief and her healing journey as she finds the strength and joy of new love.
RJ: Where did the inspirations for your plot, characters and setting come from?
TAW: The story for WICKED DELIGHTS OF A BRIDAL BED grew out of secondary characters who appeared in the earlier books in the Byrons of Braebourne series, beginning with book one, TEMPTED BY HIS KISS. As one of two Byron sisters, Mallory had to have her own book, since her brothers couldn’t be the only ones getting all of the attention! In TEMPTED BY HIS KISS, I also introduced rakish earl, Adam Gresham, who is a good friend of the Byron family, and who happens to have been secretly in love with Mallory for years. With WICKED DELIGHTS OF A BRIDAL BED, readers will find out why he never pursued Mallory, despite his deep love for her, and the lengths he goes to not to let her slip through his fingers again.
RJ: 'Wicked Delights Of A Bridal Bed' is the fourth book in the Byrons of Braebourne Series. All I can say is: "Those Byrons, Those Byrons, Those Byrons!". What an enthralling family! How did this series come about and what do you believe makes this family so beloved among the readers?
pic of Lord Byron (quite the looker)
TAW: I’ve always loved the Caro Lamb quote about Lord Byron, the poet, where she said that he was “mad, bad and dangerous to know.” I also love sexy, devilish and dangerous heroes–and high-spirited heroines, so it seemed a natural fit to blend the bad, real-life reputation of an outrageous lord with the fictional antics of an entire family of scandal-making siblings. I think that readers respond to the all-too-human qualities of the Byrons, the familial interplay and the archetypal themes of courtship and finding true love.
RJ: Let's talk about the Hero and Heroine (Adam and Mallory). In your eyes, what are their flaws and what are their redeeming qualities? Also, what makes them attracted to one another (despite the obvious handsomeness and beauty)?
TAW: I don’t generally analyze the flaws and redeeming qualities of my characters, since their creation is far more organic than it is strategic. If pressed, I would say that Adam’s telling flaws would be his pride and the insecurity he feels and acts upon regarding his relationship with Mallory; his redeeming qualities are his loyalty, kindness, consideration of others, and his undying love and support of Mallory. As for Mallory, her flaws would be her naïveté and somewhat overindulged youth (she loves shopping, especially with her brother Edward’s money); her redeeming qualities are her sweet, generous nature, a practical, common sense wisdom and a steadfast devotion to those she loves–most especially Adam. Their attraction to each other grows from a deep liking and long-term friendship, which blossoms into a rich and enduring love.
RJ: The writing process differs from author to author. Some are planners while others just jump right in. Some consider themselves night writers, while others need daylight and a park bench or a coffee shop (wink) to set the mood for creativity. What's your writing process and atmosphere like?
picture of TAW's Cat: Christofur!
TAW: I have a home office where I always work; it’s rare that I write outside of my office. Typically, I try to deal with administrative matters during the day (you’d be amazed at all the emails and writing-related business things authors do). In the evenings, I write my books–generally well past midnight and into the wee hours. I work five days a week–unless I have a deadline that’s getting close, then you’ll find me pounding the keyboard at all hours, seven days a week, until the manuscript gets completed. For atmosphere, I turn on my ipod and listen to instrumental movie scores and classical music. I love tea, so there’s always a mug nearby to keep me adequately caffeinated. I also have three little feline assistants who like to “help” me create. So far they’ve staked out most of my printer table, part of my desk and the top of my filing cabinet for use as cat beds. (To see photos of my furry assistants, please visit my website at http://www.tracyannewarren.com/)
RJ: When did you first start writing, and what inspired you to pick up a pen in the first place?
TAW: My journey as a writer started back when I was 17 and I wrote my first novel-a time travel romance, which was ahead of its time in more ways than one. (And no, that manuscript has never been published and never will be). For as long as I can remember, I’ve always made up stories, so it seemed only natural to finally start writing them down on paper. I chose to write historical, Regency-set romances because I love the era––the social rules, the clothes, the glamour and excitement of the last great era before the start of the industrial revolution and the modern world.
RJ: Romance has transcended so many different sectors of pop culture. I think the Beatles said it best, "All you need is Love". This being a Romance Blog and everything, I've got to ask: what are your favorite romance picks of the following: Favorite Love Song? Favorite Scent on a man? Favorite Romantic Comedy? and of course, Favorite Romance Novel?
TAW: I have lots of favorite love songs, but one I really adore is Celine Dion’s “Then You Look At Me.” My favorite scent on a man is no scent at all––just clean soap and water. Colognes and aftershave lotions are a real turn-off for me. My favorite romantic comedy is “Bridget Jones Diary” (the first movie, the second one is a disappointing mess). And you’re really cruel to make me choose just one favorite romance novel, but since you insist, I’d have to pick “His Lordship’s Mistress” by Joan Wolf. It was written years ago, but it’s a beautiful story.
RJ: Do you have anything you would like to address to your fans and readers?
TAW: First, I’d like to thank all my fans for their wonderful support! It’s such a pleasure and blessing being able to write stories that people enjoy. I’d also like to let everyone know that I recently signed a new four-book contract with Avon Books. So for anyone wondering if there’s going to be a story for ALL the Byron siblings, the answer is yes! I’m busy writing Drake Byron’s book now, which will be in stores in 2011. After that, the irrepressible twins, Leo and Lawrence, and youngest daughter, Esme, will be all grown up and ready to find true loves of their own. I’m tremendously excited at the prospect of getting to share more Byron stories with my readers. To find out more about me and all my books, please visit my website at www.tracyannewarren.com. Look for me on Facebook as well.
RJ: Okay, (sad face) Final Question: Name something shocking or interesting about yourself that the readers may not know.
TAW: I lead a rather ordinary life these days (chained to the keyboard, remember?), but perhaps something most readers don’t know is that I was about 12 when I read my first romance novel…I’ve been reading them ever since.
--

TAW: In closing, I’d like to thank you for a great interview, Rita. This was lots of fun!
RJ: I had a blast too, Tracy! Thanks for stopping by and telling the readers and I all about your newest book!

Recommendation of the Week: 08/29/10 - 09/05/10

'To Desire A Devil' by Elizabeth Hoyt
"NOTHING IS MORE INTOXICATING—
Reynaud St. Aubyn has spent the last seven years in hellish captivity. Now half mad with fever he bursts into his ancestral home and demands his due. Can this wild-looking man truly be the last earl’s heir, thought murdered by Indians years ago?
OR DANGEROUS—
Beatrice Corning, the niece of the present earl, is a proper English miss. But she has a secret: No real man has ever excited her more than the handsome youth in the portrait in her uncle’s home. Suddenly, that very man is here, in the flesh—and luring her into his bed.
THAN SURRENDERING TO A DEVIL.
Only Beatrice can see past Reynaud’s savagery to the noble man inside. For his part, Reynaud is drawn to this lovely lady, even as he is suspicious of her loyalty to her uncle. But can Beatrice’s love tame a man who will stop at nothing to regain his title—even if it means sacrificing her innocence?"Source

-Elizabeth Hoyt has some of the HOTTEST stepback covers I've seen on historicals thus far. My repertoire is surly lacking for not having read something by her yet. But after reading the blurb to this particular book, I knew it had to be fast tracked to the top of my TBR pile! If you've read this book, or any other by EH, tell me your opinion!

Publishing and Literary News: "Oh, Hell To The Naw" -Freedom of Speech at a price? -Bloggers getting charged-

Facebook newsfeeds are incredible things. While scrolling (more like trolling) my facebook newsfeeds, Author Barbara Bretton posted this status with a link attached that caught my attention.
"Philly requiring bloggers to pay $300 for a business license"
 Me: "........"

Say WHAT!? Of course I had to check out this article and was stunned that the government is so hard up for cash that they are more or less taxing us for the use of rights already guaranteed in the first amendment.
So you're telling me that my Recommendation of the Week's are worth 300$ +taxes? Well, hot damn! I mean, I have a high opinion of my blog, don't get me wrong (mother's pride), but even I think 300$ is pretty steep, just for posting my musings. Albeit, the cost would probably vary from state to state, and I haven't used the blog to make money in any way, shape, or form, but this is still a scary thought. Personally, I keep the blog ad sense free and just give you my crazy book content straight from concentrate ;), but what about other blogs who have been around for multiple years and make use of ad-sense for (literally) pocket change?

Marilyn Bess, blogger and creator of Ms.Philly Organic: Living Green In Philadelphia , is the common example being used by some media press outlets. She received a letter from the city in May, demanding 300$ for a business privileges license after it was determined (how? I shutter to think ; some believe *cough* unlawful abuse of authority/power*cough*-allegedly-) that her blog had made about 50$ over the past few years. Obviously, 50$ is enough to feed, clothe and support yourself and your family and is therefore a taxable amount of money..

Here's the way the 300$ 'business privileges licenses' for bloggers in Philly is being explained [by people with the press credential I sorely lack] ;):
"Even though small-time bloggers aren't exactly raking in the dough, the city requires privilege licenses for any business engaged in any "activity for profit," says tax attorney Michael Mandale of Center City law firm Mandale Kaufmann. This applies "whether or not they earned a profit during the preceding year," he adds. So even if your blog collects a handful of hits a day, as long as there's the potential for it to be lucrative — and, as Mandale points out, most hosting sites set aside space for bloggers to sell advertising — the city thinks you should cut it a check."-Philadelphia City Paper Source
"Mannino says the city doesn't keep track of how many bloggers and small-website owners are affected. But bloggers aren't the only ones upset with the city's tax structure. In June, City Council members Bill Green and Maria Quiñones-Sánchez unveiled a proposal to reform the city's business privilege tax in an effort to make Philly a more attractive place for small businesses. If their bill passes, bloggers will still have to get a privilege license if their sites are designed to make money, but they would no longer have to pay taxes on their first $100,000 in profit. (If bloggers don't want to fork over $300 for a lifetime license, Green suggests they take the city's $50-a-year plan.)
Their bill will be officially introduced in September. "There's a lot of support and interest in this idea," Green says."-Philadelphia City Paper Source
-So if you're a blogger, and put up ad sense to get a dime or two when someone clicks on it, the city feels entitled to AT LEAST 20 times that (okay, maybe that's an exaggeration. But even so, why must bloggers fork over cash from their pocket in the first place? Hasn't any on ever heard of someone taking up some 'hobbies'. SO what if you get 20$ after 6 years? Like really, you don't see Martha Stewart-types forking over 300$ for putting together some of their arts and crafts projects for the kiddies and posting them on a blog)...Yep.. good ole governmental logic at work.. How ever did we find our selves in a economic recession?

-I love what one commenter said on one of the articles: "what's next? business licenses for little kid's lemonade stands?"..I wouldn't fling around that joke too carelessly... you may be surprised...

But don't call a four alarm fire just yet; This is only being pursued in Philadelphia (as of yet) and still in the early stages and only in talks of an actual construction of laws/bill to enforce it. But you know how state government is. One state does it, 16 others find a way to be more outrageous with it and copycat. If push comes to shove, I think the blogging commuting will band together and sign as many petitions and write as many well-worded letters and blog posts as possible to advocate the separation of state from blogging (wow, where am I? 7th grade U.S History class with Ms.Norman?). Some entertaining (in it's ridiculousness) and slightly disturbing news for you to chew on ;) .. Where is the future of blogging heading?

Check out some of these related article where people who actually KNOW what they are talking about break it down for ya:

Recommendation of the Week" 08/22/10 - 08/29/10

'Prince Of Dreams' by Lisa Kleypas
"A wealthy and bitter exile, the most dangerous and desirable man in all England, he burns to possess a proud, headstrong beauty who is promised to another. But winning Emma Stokehurst's exquisite hand through threats and determination does nothing to fill the empty spaces in Nikolas's heart -- until passion's magic carries the handsome, tormented prince back to a bygone era of splendor and romantic dreams.
For there his destiny awaits him in a distant life. And in one remarkable woman's tender touch -- achingly familiar but gloriously new -- he must seek the elusive promise of ecstasy...and learn, at last, to love."Source
-I personally enjoyed this novel a great deal. Having read the first book in the Stokehurst series, 'Midnight Angel', I was already familiar with the secondary characters who take center stage in this book. The brash Russian [exiled] prince and the flame-colored-hair, animal loving object of his affections stirs the pot well! It was very culturally centric, without being 'TOO MUCH' in the unfamiliar. Some might tell you that they disliked the sort of time-travel aspect that was thrown into the middle of the book, and I'd have to agree somewhat, but only because I was more interested and focused on Emma and Nikolas instead of their ancestors. Give it a read. You'll like it!

'Wicked Delights Of A Bridal Bed' by Tracy Anne Warren -[ARC] Review-

A touching and romantic love-story about overcoming grief and allowing true love to take root. A stellar read that will leave you VERY satisfied, indeed!
Mallory Byron is knee deep in the throes of grief after the loss of her beloved fiancee', Major Michael Hargreaves. She won't take dinner with the house guest anymore, she hardly speaks at length with members of her own family, and the tears and nightmares still plague her lonely nights.
Who would have thought it would take the 'notorious rake' and family friend, Adam Gresham, Earl of Gresham, to work a smile on her face. But little does she know, he plans to work way more than a smile out of her and plans to see to her future happiness...with him. Mallory isn't sure if she's ready to abandon her 'comfortable' isolation and take a chance on a man whom she may never be able to love, but Adam is persistent and soon she may find her self become well acquainted with the wondrous, amazing and Wicked Delights Of A Bridal Bed.

Read an excerpt: here

Mallory Byron is the sister to Duke of Clybourne. She has a loving and supportive family, albeit with their "mad, bad and dangerous" reputations, all of whom have settled and benefited from marriages filled with love, passion, and understanding. That was all she wanted out of life as well, but after her fiancee' is reported dead on the front lines of war, she can't help but feel the acute pain as her deepest desire begins to slips from grasp. Her mourning period has come and gone, but still, Mallory feels Major Michael Hargreaves' passing keenly. Somehow, the tears keep falling, and her heart fall further and further to the point of no return.
At a house party (designed with working Mallory out of her funk in mind), in walks the dashing and deliciously rakish Adam, Earl of Gresham, who has been a friend of the family for many years and silently in love with Mallory for what feels like just as long (although Mallory hasn't a clue). When he first realized his feelings for Mallory, he was nothing more than a financially deprived heir who was poised to inherit his father's outstanding debt and damn-near decrepit house along with the Earl's title. He didn't have much to offer Mallory, so he decided to hold out until his circumstances improve before starting any courtship. While he kept his distance, the young Major stole Mallory's heart, and Adam had to fight every impulse and let her go.
As unfortunate as Hargreaves' death is, it provides a window of opportunity for Adam which he can't pass up. But first, he must coax the reluctant Mallory out of her depression and bring some sunshine and laughter back into her life.
Being found in Mallory's bed, in a compromising state, by all 4 of her intimidating brothers, and forcing the hand of his pal, the Duke of Clybourne, wasn't exactly what Adam had in mind for his grand woo-ing. The circumstances ties our Hero and Heroine together for a lifetime of passion, desire, and mutual healing and understanding as they begin to develop love for one another; but how will Mallory ever be able to let go of her past and embrace this new future?
In this beautiful love story (and you can not read this book and not call it that), Adam will have to learn that if he truly loves someone, sometimes he just has to let them go-a second time-; and hope that the Wicked Delight of a Bridal Bed and his unconditional love will be enough to have them coming back and staying where they belonged all along.

Rating: 4 Red Roses
My Favorite Part of the Book: Is the general beginning as Adam begins to work Mallory out of her depression. She hardly eats or socializes, choosing to isolate herself from those who love her most in her time of grief. She has been unhappy for so long, that the family is desperate to bring some warmth and happiness back into her life. Adam loves her, and wants to see her happy again, and you can feel the genuineness of his actions. He barges into her rooms all casual-like and convinces her to eat dinner with everyone else, he helps pick out her dresses and takes her for intimate picnics when she's had enough of everyone else. It is just so heart warming to recount Adam's actions in regards to his Mallory. *sigh*
In the end, when you open a romance book, you want to see some romance. The love Adam has for Mallory, and the love Mallory develops for Adam, is really believable. I love the concept of Mallory's grieving over a lost love and being granted a second chance at a new one. There is a plot twist towards the end that will have you gasping and "OMG"-ing like crazy and you'll have to read the story to find out what it is (my lips are sealed. =X), but this was one of the more genuine stories I've read in a while. It was deep and dark without letting  those elements overwhelm the plot, and you're sure to fall in love by the time you reach the back cover!

'Desires Of A Perfect Lady' by Victoria Alexander -Review-

Reluctant adventure and reluctant love are what await you if you choose to pick up this novel. A delightful story of love lost and then found and then put to the test once again.
While on a quest to procure the missing pieces to her late-husband's art collections, which will ensure she receives her inheritance left to her from his death, Lady Olivia Rathbourne must now turn to the one man she trusted with her heart 10 years ago and who failed her when she needed him most.
Sterling Harrington, the Earl of Wyldewood, fell hard for the joyful 18 year old Olivia when he was only 20. Now, a decade later, a deception which tore the two apart has been revealed and Lady Olivia is in danger once again. She needs his help not only to stay alive but to gain her financial independence and freedom; and Sterling will NOT fail her again.
And then Olivia's secret list of desires comes into play, and a journey for treasure turns into a journey back to love.

Read an excerpt: here

Respected (or at least tolerated) member of The London Antiques Society, it was the consensus that Lord Rathbourne, in spite of his impressive art collections, was a man of questionable character. It really didn't come as much of a shock when his lordship was found murdered, in the garden, with his neck slit. He was a man of many possessions and a possessiveness towards said possessions (try saying that 3x fast). You could ask his wife, Lady Olivia Rathbourne, exactly how far he went to securing his interests. Forced to marry Lord Rathbourne and not the love of her life was just the start of Olivia's 10 year estrangement from the world (and from happiness). Finally, her husband is dead and she is free, but a stipulation in her husband's will which states that in order to receive her full inheritance as his widow, she must complete 3 of his unfinished art collections, which will likely see her sequestered in their oppressive home for the rest of her life.
But Olivia has been through far too much at the hands of her husband, and waited far to long to start crossing items off her secret list of desires, to let Lord Rathbourne continue to control her from the grave. She picks up the gauntlet he has set out for her, but with little money and limited resources to accomplish her goals, she finds she must seek out the help of the man who failed to save her from marrying Lord Rathbourne in the first place( and whom she spent the last 10 years trying to forget she loved).
Sterling Harrington was an Earl. He had two brothers who were adventures, but his responsibilities left little room for adventures. Considered stuffy, stodgy, and incredibly dull,. Sterling has tried to forget the lighter times in his life. 10 years ago he met and fell in love with Olivia, but one day, Olivia's father came acalling; informing the Earl that Olivia would be marrying Lord Rathbourne and that she had no desire to see him ever again. Heart broken and dejected, he ignored the 3 letters Olivia sent him in the beginning (which he thought were softer-worded apologies) and married, lost his wife and moved on with his life.
A decade later, Olivia's father calls on him again, with little time left in his life and a multitude of sins to try and atone for. He informs Sterling that he forced Olivia to marry Lord Rathbourne and that she sent the Earl those letters, begging him to save her from the match but that they went unanswered. He then informs Sterling that he believes the same persons who killed Lord Rathbourne could possibly come back and do harm to Olivia, and that he wants Sterling to protect her. Reluctant at first, Sterling insinuates himself back into Olivia's life with a mission to keep her safe as he should have done 10 years ago.
Olivia isn't exactly okay with Sterling's reappearance in her life, but his insistence on helping her will begin to become more warmly receipted when she finds out about her husband's stipulation in his will. Sterling's presences will also make crossing off the bedding of him off her list.
Their quest takes them to Egypt with scary Egyptian snakes, and then to Venice, where a Counte and his Contessa will be of a similar mind to court the favor of our Hero and Heroine. By happenstance, procuring the first two items for the collection is relatively easy; it's the resolving of issues from the past and making item #1 on Olivia's secret list of desires a task worth a lifetime, which will prove difficult.

Rating: 3 1/2 Red Roses
My Favorite Part of the Book: Is when Olivia is after the second item in Venice. She meets the flirtatious Counte de Sarafini, whom is the owner of the painting she needs to complete the second collection. He invites her to luncheon with the unexpressed intention of luring her to his bed. She goes to the luncheon alone, flirting outrageously with the Counte as well, but offers no more than a trade of paintings instead of a trade of bed-favors for the required paintings. The scene is funny because the Contessa has invited Sterling to a private luncheon too and he goes so he can negotiate for the painting, as well. Olivia is caught in a compromising position, and the dynamics of these scenes are priceless!
Overall, this book was an enjoyable read. Having read the previous novel, 'The Virgin's Secret', I had a little bit of knowledge on the Sterling-Olivia debacle. While I felt the 'adventure' theme over-whelmed the romance a bit, it was interesting to a degree and played it's role. I felt the characters were developing steadily, both of mind and relationship, but I did feel the revelations weren't developed as well as they could have and ran around in circles a bit. There was longing, coated in betrayal that was real interesting to read and it teased the reader throughout the novel. Give it a read!

Jiminy Cricket! The 100th Post!

Well,
Shiver me timbers and all that other good jazz. Wow! That's all I can register in my brain at the moment. I can not believe the blog has finally reached it's 100th post! This is pretty boss!
Some of you guys may be thinking, "Now, why is reaching 100 blog posts such a big deal?". Well, in the grand scope of things, it shouldn't be. I hope this isn't as good as it gets, but right now, I can't deny that it feels pretty good.
When I started the blog a little less than 5 months ago, I wasn't sure how long I'd be around, or how well I'd be doing. I try to post as much as I can and provide you guys with plenty of content to make your web visit here a fun & productive one. Reaching 100 is just a reminder that it all started 5 months ago with just one post and hopefully, will continue to get better from post 101,on...

*And I've got to mention the achieving of 300 'Likes' on the Facebook Fan Page as well. Such an amazing and humbling occurrence. The support I get from you readers is what got me to 100 blog posts in the first place, and what will push me to make it 200 by the end of the year ;).

Many thanks and lots of love,
From your friendly, neighborhood Historical Romance Junkie

-Q&A-
RJ: Hey Lila! Thanks so much for stopping by for a little chat!
LD: It’s my pleasure!  Thanks for having me!
-Firstly, congratulations on your debut book 'Awakened By A Kiss' (released August 3rd, 2010).
LD:Thanks so much!
RJ: What have the past few months been like; with anticipating the release and the feedback you've received thus far? What have you experienced emotionally as well as professionally with the completion of this new book?
LD: The entire experience has been like a wonderful exhilarating ride!  I’ve learned so much about how a manuscript becomes a book.  And I’ve delighted in every step.  It was such a thrill when my editor told me she was going to keep the title I gave the manuscript (AWAKENED BY A KISS: FIERY TALES). That isn’t usually the case.  Most of the time an author’s title is changed.  Then there was the moment I got to see my cover for the first time.  I was so blown away.  It looks even lovelier in person. That raised gold lettering against the dark background is stunning!
This has been a dream come true, and I’m so excited AWAKENED BY A KISS is finally out for readers to enjoy.  The feedback on the book has been the cream on this awesome cake.  :)
RJ: Why don't you tell me and the readers a little bit about 'Awakened By A Kiss' from the author's point of view. What were you trying to achieve with this book, and do you feel like it's 'mission accomplished'?
LD: AWAKENED BY A KISS is the first in my Fiery Tales series. It’s a collection --- steamy retellings of three classic fairy tales.  It was inspired by Charles Perrault’s famous tales – Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood and Puss in Boots.
I took all the familiar elements of each tale and gave them my own twists, injecting them with doses of heat and romance.
RJ: What challenges or difficulties did you face with the writing of this particular book?
LD: There are easy books and there are difficult books, ones you struggle over each chapter.  I’ve got to say, AWAKENED BY A KISS, just flowed and flowed.  As I was writing Sleeping Beau, the characters and plot of Little Red Writing jumped into my mind.  And as I wrote Little Red Writing, Bewitching in Boots came to me.  I wish they all came to me this easily!
RJ: Where did the inspiration for the plot, characters and setting come from?

LD: It came from my love of the time period this book is set in!  I know a lot about it.  I’ve read voraciously and with great passion about it. I’d love to see more romances set in this time period.  It will surely appeal to anyone who loves Regency set historicals.
RJ: Many authors of historicals choose to tell stories about English nobility with an English backdrop. In 'Awakened By A Kiss', the characters were from the French nobility and you choose seventeenth-century France as your backdrop. What is it about that specific period in history that appeals to you and what made you want to write about the French nobility as appose to the English?
Charles Perrault
LD: I picked this setting because I was writing about fairy tales.  We have seventeenth century French lawyer/writer Charles Perrault to thank for those fairy tales that are near and dear to our hearts.  He was the first to write down folklore and put morals to his stories---long before the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen.  Perrault was the creator of The Tales of Mother Goose.  And since the fairy tales in AWAKENED BY A KISS are based on his famous tales, I set the book in his lifetime.  I just love how elegant and opulent it was.  There were lord and ladies and magnificent masquerade balls.  There were weekly salons where the aristocracy gathered with the literati, (dramatists, writers, poets and grammarians) to discuss and debate politics, religion and literature. And there was plenty of scandalous behavior.  I wanted to write something that would still feel familiar to historical romance readers, yet at the same time bring them something different and fresh.
RJ: Let's talk about your Hero's and Heroine's (Catherine & Adrien, Nicolas & Anne, and Tristan & Elisabeth). What are their flaws and what are their redeeming qualities? Also, what attracts them to each other?
LD: I think Catherine’s flaw at the beginning of the story is that she’s given up on having any kind of happiness.  She has a quiet strength about her but has stopped dreaming and wishing for things.  Adrien is privileged, treated as royalty, and has hardened his heart--- that is until he meets up with Catherine again.  Her problems with her father resonate with Adrien and remind him of his own troubles with his powerful sire. They are attracted to each other because they are similar and are able to open each other’s hearts.
Nicolas is a pretty ambitious guy.  He’s is singularly focused on promotion in the King’s Guard.  Anne is singularly focused on writing her volumes.  I believe what attracts them (besides the physical attraction) is that they have the ability to bring out the best in each other.
Tristan is strong.  A leader.  The former commander of the most prestigious corps in the realm.  Elisabeth is strong.  A leader.  The favorite daughter of the King.  These two develop a mutual respect for each other by the end.  They not only love each other, but they have a high regard for each other, too.
RJ: The writing process differs from author to author. Some are planners while others just jump right in. Some consider themselves night writers, while others need daylight and a park bench or a coffee shop (wink) to set the mood for creativity. What's your writing process and atmosphere like?
LD: I wish I could write in a coffee shop, but I can’t! I love coffee, but I’d be so distracted in a coffee shop.  I write when the kids are in school – with either classical music or new age music playing in the background.  I do most of my writing during the day.  Depending on the deadline, I might write late at night and on weekends, too.  As to whether I plot or just write and let my muse take me where it wants to go----I’d say I do a little of both!  I write a general outline before I start a book.  I’ll know the characters, and I’ll have some scenes drafted out.  Then I dive into the book.
LD: Favorite Love Song – I have so many favorites!  But there is one love song that totally melts me.  It’s soooo beautiful.  WHEN I’M WITH YOU, by Sheriff.  The lead singer is Freddie Curci.  His voice is *incredible* and I think he still has the record for holding that final note the longest in recording history.  I’ve no idea how he does it!  As an interesting tidbit, I’m sort of related to him (though I doubt he remembers me!)  Years ago, his sister married one of my cousins.  But I’m not in any way selecting this song for that reason!  I just absolutely love it.  Check it out on youtube.  Make sure you hear the version that plays his final note to the end. *swoon*  I had the privilege of meeting him in person at the wedding.  And yup, incase you’re wondering, he wrote a magnificent song for his sister’s wedding and sang it like an angel. *sighs*
Favorite scent on a man -- Dolce & Gabbana , Light Blue. My husband wears it.  Yum! :)
Favorite Romantic Comedy - Again, too many favorites to list, but I do have a new favorite to add to my long list – Leap Year.   Such a cute movie!
Favorite Romance Novel – No way could I ever select just one!

RJ: What's coming up next for you (book-wise or otherwise)? And also, congrats on your full-length novel book deal!
LD: Thank you for the good wishes!  In November 2010, my next Fiery Tales collection will hit the shelves – THE PRINCESS IN HIS BED – with three more hot historical heroes who find their perfect match.  Inspired by The Emperor’s New Clothes,” “The Ugly Duckling, and “The Princess and the Pea”,  I put my own sensual spin on these classic fairy tales written by Hans Christian Andersen.  They are retold and renamed, “The Marquis’ New Clothes”, “The Lovely Duckling” and “The Princess and the Diamonds”.

RJ: Do you have anything you would like to address to your fans and the readers?
LD: Since I’m a debut author, readers don’t know what to expect from my books.
I’ve taken my love of fairy tales, history and passionate love stories, and blended them intoone steamy yet romantic anthology in AWAKENED BY A KISS. In my books, you can always expect to find a sinfully seductive rake, a strong smart heroine who will make him lose his heart and scorching-hot love scenes that will leave you breathless.

Author’s website:  www.LilaDiPasqua.com
RJ: Okay, Final Question: Name something shocking or interesting about yourself that the readers may not know.

LD: I was named after my paternal grandmother – Lila DiPasqua.  She was strong, independent, smart and fiercely devoted to her family. And she had a great laugh. I’m honored to share her name.
As for my paternal grandfather, Nicola DiPasqua, he was a career soldier and had a soft spot for all his grandchildren. I have many wonderful memories of him – including him sitting in a small kiddie chair, sipping pretend tea with me and my dolls.  He was a true hero in every sense of the word.  And the best grandpa. I’m honored that we shared the same birthday, and for the first 17 years of my life, we celebrated our birthdays together and shared the same birthday cake, too.  Both my grandparents are gone now.  I wish they had lived to see all this.  I know they’d be very proud.
Lila's Question: Hey readers, what's your favorite fairytale movie and why?

-Thanks once again to my special guest, Lila DiPasqua, for stopping by and telling me a little bit about her life and her new book!
