Ashley March Interviews/Interrogates Her Husband + Giveaway!

What a fabulous day! Not only does my one true love, historical romance author Ashley March, have a release out today, she ALSO dragged...err, 'brought' her lovely husband on to my little ole blog for an interview + Giveaway! But before we get to all the fun, Let's get to know more about this author and her latest release:

Ashley March
About the Author:
After spending countless hours memorizing both traditional and simplified Chinese characters, perfecting her tones, and practicing her speaking with any Chinese native she could find, Ashley successfully graduated with a degree in Mandarin Chinese. She was determined to be the next best Chinese translator in the world... Then she discovered writing romances was as much fun as reading them, and her Chinese capabilities have never been the same. When she isn't writing, Ashley stays busy trying to entertain her two young daughters, attempting to do housework, and hiking in the beautiful foothills of Colorado.

About the Book:

Sebastian Madinger, the Earl of Wriothesly, thought he'd married the perfect woman-until a fatal accident revealed her betrayal with his best friend. After their deaths, Sebastian is determined to avoid a scandal for the sake of his son. But his best friend's widow is just as determined to cast her mourning veil aside by hosting a party that will surely destroy both their reputations and expose all of his carefully kept secrets...
Leah George has carried the painful knowledge of her husband's affair for almost a year. All she wants now is to enjoy her independence and make a new life for herself-even if that means being ostracized by the Society whose rules she was raised to obey. Now that the rumors are flying, there's only one thing left for Sebastian to do: silence the scandal by enticing the improper widow into becoming a proper wife. But when it comes to matters of the heart, neither Sebastian nor Leah is prepared for the passion they discover in each other's arms....

In Which Ashley March Interviews Her Husband, Mr. March Regarding His Reading of Her Newest Release, ROMANCING THE COUNTESS

(In Which the Interview is Set Up as an Interrogation in a Courtroom)
(Because Ashley Thinks This is Amusing)
(In Which Ashley Acts as Both Interrogator and Innocent Author)
(In Which Mr. March is Very, Very Hopeful that No Matter What He Says, He will Still be Able to Sleep in His Own Bed Tonight)

ASHLEY: Mr. March, is it or is it not true that you have been amazingly supportive of your wife’s (that would be me) writing journey and agreed to read her debut when it came out in October 2010? And is it not true that when the time came for you to actually read SEDUCING THE DUCHESS, you were very reluctant to read, as I believe you’ve referred to other books in the same genre, a “kissy-face romance novel”?
MR. MARCH: Do I need a lawyer for this? I thought this was going to be a friendly interview. I’m tempted to take my microphone off and storm out of our basement. I am being told by my legal department I must comply, however, so to answer your question: Yes.

ASHLEY: So after reading and loving SEDUCING THE DUCHESS, you promptly and happily agreed to read everything your wife wrote in the future…until the end of your days, is that right?
MR. MARCH: Absolutely. Ish. I don’t always read things promptly, but I do read them. I like seeing the finished product, and if I gave you your way, I would read every edit and know all the deep and dirty behind-the-scenes secrets. For instance, do you remember what you originally wanted the title of SEDUCING THE DUCHESS to be? I agree that MR. MARCH’S WILD RIDE was a terrific idea, but it just didn’t work.

ASHLEY (thinks about objecting, then allows Mr. March his humor): Thank you for reading my newest book, ROMANCING THE COUNTESS, which was actually released today! Of course, being my husband and being privy to my author copies when they come in the mail, you have already received a signed copy for yourself well before other readers. Would you mind telling our audience what you thought of the book? And please know, you have full immunity to any glare that may or may not come your way should you say anything less than favorable about your lovely wife’s book. You can tell the truth, I promise. I will always love you, no matter what.
MR. MARCH: I thought this was your strongest writing yet. You took some deeply personal ideas and put them to paper and really went out on a limb to change your style. What really set this work apart is that I can tell you are world building now. I can easily picture each character going off to have their own adventures and I think that leads to a rich tapestry of a tale. I want to see more of that in the future from you. I will say that I thought the word “cravat” was used far too often since I have no idea what that is.

ASHLEY: Thank you. *preens* But um, you really don’t know what a cravat is?
MR. MARCH: No. Seriously, what in the hell is a cravat?

ASHLEY: It’s like a necktie…but not. Very well, it’s what heroines used to tie heroes up with. ;) Now, I’m glad you feel that you can be so open about your opinion. It takes a strong man to be so brave when your wife knows the true story of how exactly the two of you met. But let’s move on. Remember to speak the truth, Mr. March. Nothing but the truth. I assure you , I can handle the truth. First, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the pleasure of your reading experience with ROMANCING THE COUNTESS?
MR MARCH: Reading is a pleasure for me, always. But I will say that reading the incredibly moving and arousing writing of my wife is a rare pleasure indeed.

ASHLEY: Um. I’m not an erotica writer, dear husband. Tone it down a little, please. *blushes*
MR MARCH: That being said, let’s get really classy with it and assume that 1 on the scale means I felt like I was chewing on barbed wire during the book, and a 10 means that I was taking ‘great pleasure’ in reading it. I’ll give it a 9. Pants on, but unbuttoned, in terms of pleasure. Is that what you meant by that question?

ASHLEY: Not exactly. But, ahem, how would you rate the pleasure of your reading experience with SEDUCING THE DUCHESS on the same scale?
MR. MARCH: I’ll go with an 8, pants on, still buttoned, fly down. (Classy)

ASHLEY: Very classy, indeed. So you find that you enjoyed ROMANCING THE COUNTESS more. Interesting. Why do you think this is?
MR. MARCH: I thought you really flushed out the characters more. I felt the emotional strain on both the earl and that chick to be really moving. You felt horrible for their situation and worried that society was going to keep them apart. Also, spoiler alert, the love scenes in this were mucho intense. Yup, nothing like true love between some earl and some chick for my money. (Ashley interjects: But in truth, you didn’t pay for it. I gave it to you. Just so we’re clear.) Of course, I am kidding. I liked Sebastian because being a father I could relate to his undying devotion to his children. And I liked Leah because she was hot and more than a little….giving…in the bedroom if you know what I mean.
You do, right, ladies? Right? Who’s with me? No? Okay then.

ASHLEY: The classiness continues. J Would you mind relating to our audience your favorite scene in ROMANCING THE COUNTESS? Also, please include an explanation as to why it was your favorite scene.
MR. MARCH: There is a scene where he sees her at night in the garden with a telescope (she has it, he isn’t watching her like a Victorian era perv) and their interaction is well written. But also, something about the scene itself feels very familiar—I think everyone will understand what I mean when they read it.

ASHLEY: Was there any part of ROMANCING THE COUNTESS which you did not like or with which you had any issues? Anything you saw that could have been improved and that you, being the wonderful husband you are, would have told your wife to change had you been able to do so before the book was printed?
MR. MARCH: No. There. Is. Not. I. Love. You.

ASHLEY: Thank you, Mr. March. I appreciate your honest opinion. And I love you, too. J Quickly, I also heard that you read ROMANCING LADY CECILY, the e-short prequel to ROMANCING THE COUNTESS. Would you or would you not recommend this story of approximately 15,000 words to your wife’s readers and why?

MR. MARCH: Oh man! That thing is full of the sexiness! It’s a fun little story with a cute twist, but man, the loving in that novella is on par with some 1970’s R&B. You know what a lady needs to get over the death of a close friend? You guessed it, sexual healing.

ASHLEY, trying not to laugh and failing: I have said in the past that ROMANCING LADY CECILY is somewhat spicier than my regular books and that readers should be warned as appropriate. Do you believe this to be true?

MR. MARCH: See above. The book is a lot like me, it doesn’t need a whole lot of time to get you hot and bothered and leave you wanting more.
I’m not sure that came out entirely as I wanted it to.

ASHLEY: And now this is how everyone knows why I write romance novels, because YOU, Mr. March, are my inspiration. J Thank you once again. I’m sure our readers will take your comments into consideration—with the realization, of course, that you would never lie under duress of any kind, that you are honest and dependable, trustworthy, and oh so sexy…in fact, the perfect romance hero for me. J

Before we go, would you like to ask a question to our readers?
MR. MARCH: Well then, hello ladies (and occasional gentlemen). Now that we’re all alone, let’s be honest. I like to surprise my wife with romantic gestures (flowers, nights out, not passing gas at the dinner table, not putting dirty diapers under her pillow when she’s out of the room), but I want to know what really boils your tea kettle. What thing does your husband, boyfriend, or imaginary friend do that says, ‘ROMANCE!’ in big capital letters with an exclamation point after it, to you? And remember, Mr. March loves all of you, but none more than Mrs. March. Buy all her books and support her forever so that I can live out my dream of building a batcave under our house and fighting crime when hockey isn’t in season.

One random commenter will be chosen to win a copy of Ashley’s newest book, ROMANCING THE COUNTESS (open internationally)! Also, find out how to win the ROMANCING THE COUNTESS Book Tour Grand Prize of 50+ romance novels by visiting www.ashleymarch.com!

Ashley interjects for a final time:

ASHLEY: Oh, and one more note. Today (September 6th) I’ve started a fun new reader-interactive experiment where readers get to help me write a novella on my website at www.ashleymarch.com! Over the next 10 weeks, readers will vote on how the chapter for the next week develops, and will get to read the chapter based upon their vote after I write it. Come check it out!

and now Rita interjects:
Ashley has amazingly agreed to be interrogated herself on tonight episode of Romance Lately!!! She, along with the lovely Shana Galen, are our special guests on the webshow and will be sharing all sorts of secrets LIVE at 8pm EST. 1. Aw! Great interview. I don't know why you changed the title from MR. MARCH'S WILD RIDE. When Mr. Galen empties the dishwasher or takes out the trash or does something helpful like that, it spells romance to me. Are you reading this, Mr. Galen?

  2. Great interview. I loved it! Mr. March you are true character and I see why you're Ashley's inspiration. I think you inspire all of us to believe in HEA.

Now, my man sends the romance vibes when he cooks me dinner, pampers me and takes care of me. That's a gal wants from her hero, to be taken care of! *At least sometimes ;)

  3. (Yawn) What a fine morning (stretch) let's see what the internet has to offer me today in way of relaxation and recovery from a lovely Labor Day. Oh what's this? My wife has posted up an interview she did with me....that's....wait.....oh dear....oh no.

  4. So let me get it straight so far. The 'romantic' gestures are doing dishes, and cooking dinner? The bar is certainly set low ladies. Where are my 'Takes me on a horse back ride on the beach' women at? That was the title of my first rap song, but the hook was just unwieldy.

  5. Romance for me is when my husband is able to get the house quiet for me when I want ot read. With having teenage boys and their friends, it's hard to find a place in the house where I don't hear some type of noise.
Romance is also being able to sneak away to have time just for us. We were able to do it last month for a long weekend to the Caribbean.

  6. Congratulations...Release Day has arrived!

Loved the interview, Mr. March. And I think Ashley should save that title suggestion for another book in the future. I know I would love to read 'Mr March's Wild Ride'...sounds like fun.

Note to Ashley: Love your new novella idea. I voted...must be the first one to do so too since all my choices are 100%. LOL

  7. Thank you both so much for a very entertaining and amusing interview. It's obvious that there is so much love between you both, and that Mr March supports you in your writing.

I adore Historical Romance books. I love to be swept away to another time and place where people lived, laughed and were finding their way to each other. For some reason, I always fall in love with the hero and always really sorry when the book ends.

Congratulations on your new release, I'm really excited about "Romancing the Countess", and can't wait to read it.

Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity.

  8. Thank you for the laughs and smiles while reading this. What a great couple. I wish you two the best and a long and happy forever after.

  9. Caribbean trips are romantic from what I hear. However reading in a quiet house is uber romantic.

People are digging the idea of my wild ride. I should elaborate that it is simply me drunkenly riding the penny horse ride at the front of our local grocery store before being hauled away for various public intoxication violations. More of a novella really.

Diane-I think that anyone who is able to fall in love each time they read a new story is amazing. That's the way to live life and to enjoy art. Well done!

    Thank you Christine!

  10. I'd love to have a bat cave under my house. Danna nanna nanna nanna...Batman! Crash. Boom. BANG!

Cute interview, Mr. and Mrs. March. Congrats on the new release.

    I love cruises.

  11. Why thank you Mr. March. I just hope that people don't think that I'm a sorry sort because I fall in love with the hero everytime?

  12. What an entertaining interview! I can easily see who is the inspiration for Ashley's romance novels.

For everyday romance, I like when my husband can make me laugh...and helps with the housework.
For that special romantic gesture, nothing beats going away together. I love the little trips for just the 2 of us.

  13. Hi Shana! Congrats on your new release today!!! You know, I'll have to suggest MR. MARCH'S WILD RIDE for my next book. We'll see what my publisher says. And just get me USF's number. I'll remind him about the dishes and the trash. ;)

  14. Hi Landra! We must remember one very important thing today. We can't make Mr. March's head too much bigger. I have to live with him, after all! ;) Thanks for dropping by!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ah Mr. March you randy troublemaker.

I do like the simple things like unexpected roses from the grocery store because they were on sale and there was one bunch that wasn't rancid.

I also like when he makes the bed, though it would be nice if he removed my hairbrush first so I don't get stabbed in the back when I go to sleep.

OH! My favorite is when he takes the kids and leaves the house nice and quiet so I can get some writing and photo editing done. That is terribly thoughtful of him. :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. By the way, Mr. March, I'd love a horseback ride on the beach. Or really any vacation on the beach. (but the dinner and dishes are really, nice, too. don't stop doing those, please =) )

  17. Hi oeamis! Nice to see you again! =) Oh, a day just to get by yourself and read as much as you want sounds HEAVENLY. Hear that, Mr. March? HEAVENLY. =)

  18. Hi Karen! Thanks so much for voting! I just sent out my newsletter and posted it up on the various social media sites, so hopefully we'll get more votes soon. If not, you and I will be writing a novella together. ;)

  19. LOL! Love this interview. I wonder if I could get my husband to go along with something like this...::wicked smile:: The other day I was supposed to round up my brothers and haul lumber for our grandma. I'd injured my hand so he went in my place. That was romantic.

  20. Hi Diane! Thanks so much for the congrats, and good luck with the giveaway! You know it's a great romance book when you're upset that it ends. Also, for me, I know it's great when I sigh and smile at the end. =)

  21. Mr. March and I have to go do the rounds for release day, but never fear--we'll be back later to respond to more comments. <3

  22. Well that ADD has eliminated any chance I have of following what has been said. To Diane, don't worry about that at all. I am a huge scary movie fan and I still jump at the same old scares each time. Doesn't make me a poorer person for the experience, just shows that I have the ability to enjoy something fresh each time.

That or I have short term memory problems from so many blows to the head by Mrs. March.

Time to go to the book store and casually walk up to people with Mrs. March's book and go, "Hey, you see the woman in the picture in the back of the book? That's her over there. Yeah...I've seen her naked."

  23. I thoroughly enjoyed your interview with Mr. March!

Mr. BuriedUnderBooks defines romance for me when he takes the kids out so I can have some "ME" time. Gotta love it!

  24. OMG! You guys are perfect for each other! I just LOVED the interview and I must say, Mr. March, you just cracked me up!

As for the romantic thing that Mr. Friedman does for me that would be our 'mini trips' to the north. He surprises me with those almost every month. Just a weekend getaway, but the 'road trip' is most fun because he picks the most out of the way places to visit and eat out.

Mrs. March, I'm looking forward to reading your books (I have them all, so please exclude me from the giveaway) and just can't wait for you to stop by my blog as well:)

    Should be lots of fun:)

  25. I loved this! I became a fan of Mr. March when Mr. DiPasqua interviewed him. Mr. March, PLEASE don't let Mr. D learn of your bat cave idea. That's the last thing this house needs, and being an engineer, he'd get to work on one--straightaway.

Ashley, mega congrats on the release of ROMANCING THE COUNTESS! It's been getting so many great reviews. Can't WAIT to read it!

    Hugs,

  26. I love when the hubby has an interview! They are so fun! Love you guys together :)
My hubby is pretty low in the romance department...grumble grumble. But...every once in awhile he gets me flowers or watches our boys so I can just have a bit of time to myself which is always very appreciated!
Congrats on your release day! :)

  27. Ashley and Mr. March,

All I can say is it's good that I read this interview on my lunch hour becasue if I had to pick up the phone and talk to a client my hysterical laughter probably wouldn't have been appreciated. You just made my day a lot less stressful!

I must admit when our children were the age that yours are now my husband made my day when he washed the dishes or offered to change the diapers. I did tell him that I was "more in the mood" if I got away from the stress of motherhood for a while but I wouldn't exactly call that bribery, would you?

Now I think it's romantic if he watches the Red Sox because it gives me a chance to read Ashley's books! Yep, true devotion to let me have that quiet time to relax after a hard day at work. At least he tells me that he watches the Red Sox to give me "free time" to relax and read. He wouldn't be stretching the truth would he? Your a man Mr. March, what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think your husband deserves to star in his own book. He's already got the hero witty banter thing down. I'm beginning to see where you get your inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mr. March is hilarious, as per usual!

What, no votes for romantic strolls on the beach? Okay, maybe not around here (50F with 98% humidity and fog) but Hawaii is still beautiful. Or applauding the sunset at Key West; that's romantic, too (as long as no hurricanes are heading that way).

  41. Hi Brooklyn! Glad you enjoyed the interview. =) I have to admit I MIGHT not have given Mr. March the choice. I MIGHT have just said something along the lines of, "I wrote an interview for you. Can you get it back to me by such-and-such a date?" And he did it, because he's truly awesome. =)

  42. TinaBuriedUnderBooks--glad you enjoyed the interview. =) And Mr. Buried Under Books sounds like a winner. ;)

  43. Great interview. As for romantic gestures, they have changed over the years. When our children were young and in school, even high school. We would meet for lunch. We didn't need to worry about babysitters and could have a nice relaxed meal. Now it usually involves travel or books. He keeps building bookcases for me and understands when I want to go listen to an author. He has even encouraged me to attend the reader conferences like RomCon. Would love to have, but I couldn't justify the cost. One of these days. Every once in a while he'll decide to just take off for an afternoon drive or head out for a weekend. We both love to travel.

Good luck with your Batcave, Mr. Marsh.

He did that for me this past Mother's Day, and we had an amazing time. =)

  45. Hi Lila! *whispers* Don't tell anyone, but Mr. March really does believe he IS Batman. shhh. ;) I can just imagine it now, all the romance writer husbands hanging out in a basement batcave and pretending they're superheroes...and talking about how wonderful their wives are, of course. =) Thanks for the congrats on the RtC release!! Hope you enjoy it!

  46. Hi Lisa! Glad you enjoyed the interview. =) I have to admit (although I won't say this too often) that Mr. March truly is the life of any party. ;) I hope you get some much needed "you" time, soon! Any woman with children deserves it! =)

  47. Lol Jeanne. I'll have to let Mr. March tell you what he thinks of your husband watching the Red Sox. I'm sure he'll only tell you the truth...surely he wouldn't cover something up for the sake of some sort of man club. ;) And I'm so glad you enjoyed the interview! Yes, Mr. March is hilarious. I do have to say, however, I'm the one he usually has to prod to clean the house. When it comes to writing or spending time with you guys and doing the dishes...well, it's not difficult to imagine what I prefer. ;)

  50. Hi laura! =) Oh, I definitely can't let Mr. March come back to read the comments now. He'll never get over himself! ;) Isn't it absolutely wonderful to have such supportive husbands? I know not all men are like ours, but I wish they were!

  60. One of the best posts I have ever had the pleasure of reading. You both did terrific jobs in your rolls. I've had my eye on this book for a long time and cannot wait to read it.
My romantic husband's most recent act of caring and affection ( that I can discuss here) was arranging our recent trip to NYC to attend the last RWA Conference. I got to meet some of my favorite authors, attend an Avon Tea and talk to more writers. Finally, we had the incredible experience of having breakfasts with such luminaries as PJ from The Romance Dish, authors Vanessa Kelly and Randy Sykes. The "piece de resistance" was another breakfast with Connie Brockway and Eloisa James!!

I hope to meet you Mr. and Mrs. March, at next year's Conference!

I admit that he's the kind of guy girls like me dream of! *blushes*;)
    and.. he's a hockey fan?:O ..how come I didn't know this? =)*whispers* he's a keeper!;P LOL
Mr. March: thank you, for showing us (single ladies still looking) that there are some princes charming among the frogs!:)

I guess that if the guy does something that he doesn't want to do, just for me it's romantic!=)
and of course flowers on a random day!;)

  65. Thanks for the fun interview. I would say that when my husband drives the car up to the door when it's raining is romantic to me.

  66. LOVED.THE.INTERVIEW.That is all!

My bf isn't the most romantic in the bunch. Honestly if he ever shows up with flowers, I automatically think he did something wrong or is trying to tell me something bad. Don't get me wrong, I love him to pieces. I've just learned to love other things that he does for me. He'll do the laundry or cook dinner without having to be asked. Or when he lets me go to the bookstore to just browse. Things like that are what mean a lot to me.

  68. What a fun interview. It's great that Mr March is so supportive. My hubby is not particularly romantic but he tries to show his love by keeping every electronic gadget in our house in perfect working order, usually before I even notice anything is broken.

  70. This was so funny! Does Mr March have an unmarried older brother *laughs* ?

This has certainly been a high & humorous point in the book tour!
